A sad truth: David Bowie has joined the world of the departed. An avant-garde legend, Mr. Bowie will now join the ranks of John Lennon, Oscar Wylde, Divine, and other people, who in my book, have pushed social consciousness forward through their art– blurring the lines of gender, pushing the boundaries of music, and wowing the world with amazing stage shows.

Although the news of death is often a slap in the face, this one stung like glitter in the eye. As I reflect on my own relationship with Bowie’s music, his art, and his place as a cultural icon known, I can’t help but feel a bit sad. Death itself is a part of life, and Bowie had cancer, FUCK Cancer.

Still, it feels like he departed too soon. I guess some of us are too beautiful for this world. Peace
